If you took the February 2016 New York Bar Exam, you may wonder what your New York Bar Exam Score report means. (As of the writing of this post, February 2016 New York Bar Exam results have just been released and mailed to candidates at the email filed with the Board.)
Even though New York will be switching to the Uniform Bar Exam in July 2016, if you fail the bar exam, it is still critical to know what your score report means if you failed the bar exam, so that you can identify your strengths and weaknesses and conquer the next bar exam. Read more
Massachusetts bar exam results were mailed to applicants on April 21, 2016 and a list of successful applicants on the Massachusetts Board of Bar Examiners website here.

The bar exam comes at the end of three years of studying in law school, thousands of dollars spent in tuition, and then even more time, money, and energy spent on expensive bar review courses. It is the last step for students on their way to finally becoming lawyers.

Wondering which jurisdictions administer the UBE, MEE, and MPT? The UBE stands for the Uniform Bar Exam. It is composed of the multistate bar exam (called the MBE which is a 200-question multiple-choice exam), the Multistate Essay Exam (called the MEE which is a six-question essay test), and a Multistate Performance Test (an MPT, a three-hour task designed to test lawyerly skills).

It is not clear the number of states that truly allow bar exam appeals. Many state websites are unclear or not updated. Further, some states have changed their bar exam appeals policy after adopting the UBE or changing their bar exam. However, based on the state bar examiner’s websites, we are able to see that the following states allow bar exam appeals. (Note: This is not legal advice. Please look up your jurisdiction’s rules in-depth if you are considering a bar exam appeal. Further, if your state is not listed below but they offer a post-results appeals process of some kind, please let us know in the comments below!)
According the American Bar Association, the mean scaled score for the February 2016 bar exam has fallen to 135. This is approximately 1.2 points lower than it was for the February 2015 bar exam (which was 136.17).
In the past ten years, the mean scaled score for the February bar exam ranged from 135.7 to 138.6 with the average being 137.37. The February 2015 MBE scaled score was a 136.17. This drop to 135 is the lowest since the MBE scaled score has been for a February administration since 1983. Read more

Many students who took the February 2016 bar exam complained of seeing “some random zoning problems on the MBE” or “some words and phrases I’ve never heard of before.”
These random questions and the novel strange legal vocabulary that was apparently used in some questions on the multistate bar exam questions for the February 2016 bar exam is causing quite a bit of anxiety in some students who are still feeling anxious about bar exam results and can’t help but wonder if they prepared enough for the bar exam or if they passed or if they are going crazy.
