Is a live or prerecorded bar exam class right for me?
Is a live or prerecorded bar exam class right for me?
One thing you should consider when choosing a bar exam course is whether a live or prerecorded lecture is best for you. Some courses (including our JD Advising course) offer both — that is, you can attend live or you can watch the prerecorded version later. Other courses only offer one option — usually the prerecorded option.
Evaluating whether a live or prerecorded bar exam class is right for you is one of the first steps in choosing your bar prep course and planning out your bar prep.
Is a live or prerecorded bar exam class right for me?
Here we tell you the advantages and disadvantages of a live bar exam class. As well as the advantages and disadvantages of a prerecorded bar exam class. They both have pros and cons that you should consider when making your personal bar exam study plan.
Advantages of a live bar exam class: Engagement and accountability
- Students often feel more engaged.
- Students find it easier to pay attention.
- Some students need the discipline and accountability of attending lecture.
- Some (very few) courses allow students to ask questions.
Some of the disadvantages are that students cannot watch lectures on their own schedule. Nor can lectures be sped up or slowed down.
Note: There are additional advantages and disadvantages if the lecture is live and in person. If other students attend the lecture with you, this can be good or bad. (It is good to feel connected to other students. But, sometimes other students can make you anxious or add stress.)
Advantages of a prerecorded bar exam class: Flexibility
- Students have much more flexibility in terms of when/where they watch lectures.
- Students can “speed up” lectures and spend less time on the lectures when the lectures are not as helpful to them. Or they can slow down lectures.
- Students can tailor their bar prep study schedules to their personal schedules and needs.
Some of the disadvantages are that some students do not feel as engaged when watching a prerecorded lecture. It is easier to get distracted. Some students benefit from having live lectures to keep them disciplined and accountable.
