The Uniform Bar Exam, or as it is commonly referred to, the “UBE,” is a standardized bar exam that applicants must pass in the majority of United States jurisdictions. Many law school hopefuls and even law school students get confused about the way the test is administered, how it is set up, what to expect on the UBE, and where the UBE is accepted. For example, you might hear about the “MBE,” and not know what that is. Or perhaps you want to move to another state after graduation and are not sure if your score will be accepted there. Never fear – this post will dispel the mystery and answer many frequently asked questions!
Given the immense pressure felt and the considerable amount of time required when preparing for the bar exam, many examinees focus their study time and attention on the substantive portions of the bar exam, neglecting the Multistate Performance Test (MPT). Although the MPT does not require you to have any substantive law memorized, that does not mean you should not prepare for it! July 2021 New York Bar Exam results should be released around the last week of October or the first week of November. (Our formal guess of the release date is Wednesday, October 27, 2021, but it could really be anytime!) UPDATE 10/12/21: The New York State Board of Law Examiners said: “the Board expects to release the results of the bar exam by mid-December 2021.” UPDATE 10/18/21: The New York State Board of Law Examiners said: “At this time, the Board expects to release the results of the July 2021 bar examination by no later than November 10, 2021.”

A common misconception of the UBE is that, once you pass it, you can transfer a UBE score to a new jurisdiction at any time. However, this is untrue!
Depending on the state you want to transfer your score to, you may have as little as two years to transfer your score! You also may have to pass a state-specific exam to be admitted to the bar.
