On May 18, 2020, the Michigan Board of Law Examiners announced that it will proceed with the July bar exam despite the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. However, this exam will be ONLINE and ONLY include the essay portion of the exam, not the Multistate Bar Exam (MBE). And, the exam will take place on one day: July 28, 2020.
As state bar exam results are flowing in, bar exam takers are anxious for swearing-in ceremonies. However, the coronavirus (COVID-19) may halt this process, or at least change its format. It is important to note that every state has different rules for swearing-in ceremonies, so it is imperative that you check your state court’s website for the most up-to-date information.

Some states, including potentially California, are planning to administer an online bar exam. This is due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic that is affecting all law students. Thus, if you are planning to take an online bar exam, there are a few things to keep in mind when preparing. We are unsure at this time exactly how the online bar exam will work, since an online bar exam has never been administered before, but this post will give you some general tips on how to prepare until more information is released!

Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, it is a great idea for law students to start studying early for the bar exam. More time and exposure to the bar exam can only benefit your chances of passing the first time. So, if you are stuck at home under a shelter-in-place order, use this time to your advantage and get a head start on bar prep!

As the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic sweeps the nation, states are adopting the emergency diploma privilege to accommodate canceled bar exams. However, law students and graduates may be unaware of what the emergency diploma privilege entails.
In short, the emergency diploma privilege allows law school students/graduates to practice under the supervision of a licensed attorney. This extends until passing the bar exam.

This is in addition to a potential July bar exam.
(Also, as a side note: the above dates are Wednesday/Thursday dates instead of the traditional Tuesday/Wednesday bar exam dates.)
