How to Create a Fall Bar Exam Study Schedule (Templates Included!)
How to Create a Fall Bar Exam Study Schedule (with Templates Included!)
With the new fall bar exam around the corner, many students are wondering how to create a fall bar exam study schedule.
As you may know, the NCBE has officially announced two fall bar exam dates:
- September 9 and September 10
- September 30 and October 1
- UPDATE 6/1/20: the NCBE is offering a limited MBE, MEE, MPT exam online on October 5-6 for jurisdictions to use.
This can make it difficult to figure out how to study, especially when a traditional July bar exam study schedule does not apply.
There are a few options that students have:
- Option 1: start really early (e.g., give yourself 13 weeks to study and 4 weeks to review) This would be a May 11 start date for the 9/8 bar exam, June 1 start date for 9/30 bar exam.
- Option 2: start earlier than a traditional course (e.g., give yourself 11 weeks to study and 3 weeks to review). This would be a June 1 start date for the 9/8 bar exam and a June 22 start date for the 9/30 bar exam.
- Option 3: start “on time” (e.g., give yourself 8 weeks to study and 2 weeks to review). This would be a June 29 start date for the 9/8 bar exam and a July 20 start date for the 9/30 exam.
The advantages of starting early are:
- you have more time to learn the material
- you have more time to review the material
- you can take more breaks and go at a slower pace, which may cause less stress
The disadvantages of starting early are:
- you may burn out
- you may forget information you learned (setting up a schedule to make sure you have retained information you have learned is key!)
- it may be impractical (e.g., you may have a job or other demands which preclude starting too early)
We recommend taking advantage of extra time if you have it, but it may not be the right decision for everyone to start as early as May!!
