I would recommend the JD advising tutoring to future bar takers based on my experience. Full transparency my school paid for these sessions. But I would highly recommend seriously considering the investment if you can afford it, because re-takes are also expensive–and not only in the economic sense. Ninos, my tutor, was incredibly helpful throughout bar prep. He helped me identify areas of weakness and gave me feedback on essays that was more helpful than the feedback I received from my bar prep course (Kaplan). I also found that Kaplan focused on MBE questions more than Essay and MPT, which I get, but the MBE was where I was already strongest so having Ninos/JD Advising there to walk through gaining points on essays and MPT was helpful to balance out my bar prep. I also just think it helps from a social accountability standpoint because when we know other people are expecting something of us we are more likely to do it. This was my first time taking the bar and I was very stressed out and Ninos’ reassurances were very helpful. I just felt better about the whole process after our meetings and when you’re in the thick of balancing bar prep and life/work etc that peace of mind is invaluable. I did well on the bar (+300) and attribute some part of that success to the tutoring services I received from JD advising via Ninos.

I want to provide a testimonial about how helpful it is to get 1-on-1 tutoring with a JD Advising advisor when you are preparing for the bar exam. I took the Michigan bar exam and was highly successful, with a total score of 356. Although I had Barbri as my bar prep, I firmly believe that the additional tutoring I had through JD Advising with Doriel is what set me apart and solidified my passing score. It is extremely helpful to have another source to get information from, and a real person to voice your concerns and questions to. In my case, I found this particularly true because Barbri focuses more on MBE than it does on essays and MPTs, and its instruction in the latter two areas is lacking (in my opinion). Meanwhile, I found JD Advising’s help invaluable for increasing my essay and MPT scores. The biggest contrast was the essay feedback and grading: whereas Barbri’s feedback was sparse, Doriel’s feedback on my essays helped me understand what I was doing wrong, and importantly, how to improve. I highly recommend receiving tutoring from JD Advising so you can be a one-and-done, one time test taker!
