How To Get Through Law School Final Exams
Getting through law school final exams in one piece takes stamina, motivation, and discipline. We know, this is a lot easier said than done. Regardless of whether you’re taking exams during the fall or spring semester, the process is tiring, stressful, and repetitive. Wake up, study, wake up, study, take final, and so on. If you’re a law school student struggling to make it to the finish line – don’t worry. Here are some tips to help you get through law school final exams.
How To Get Through Law School Final Exams
Mind + Body
Making sure that you’re well taken care of on a personal level is a critical component of achieving success on final exams. The first step to ensuring this is to take the time to listen to your mind and your body. Without your mind and body working together in harmony, it can be difficult to focus and perform at your best. For example, if you’re physically tired – take a quick power nap or more extended rest period. If you’re hungry – nourish your body with healthy foods and lots of water. If you’re feeling confined – go take a walk or complete a quick workout. While all of these suggestions may sound obvious, finals can get the best of everyone. It’s not uncommon for students to find themselves sitting in front of a computer screen and relying on coffee for sustenance for hours on end. While time may be limited during law school finals, take a couple of minutes to take care of yourself. You’ll be glad you did!
Get Academic Help
If finals time has slowly crept up on you and you’re not where you want to be academically – it’s ok. You’re not the only one, and it’s not the end of the world by any means. However, it does mean that you’re going to have to change several aspects of how you prepare. If you don’t understand substantive subject material – get help as soon as possible. This can be from your professors, friends and classmates, or other resources such as a law school tutor. The sooner you begin to understand the material, the sooner you can begin effectively and efficiently studying. Almost every law school student reaches out for academic help at various points, so don’t think you’re alone. The most important thing is to reach out for help as soon as you realize that you need some additional assistance!
Manage Final Exam Emotions
As we briefly mentioned above, final exams in law school are a stressful, anxious, and overall emotional time for students. With that being said, it’s important to do your best to keep your emotions in check. For example, it’s easy to feel discouraged and hopeless after a less than ideal performance on one exam. However, don’t let your thoughts and feelings about one exam negatively impact your performance on another. Law school final exams are a marathon, not a sprint. That means powering through and picking yourself up when you stumble. Try not to wallow in a pit of despair over the last final – instead, focus on nailing the next one. If you find yourself struggling mentally as you prepare for finals (or any other time during your law school journey), seek help! Many law schools offer mental help support for students who are struggling!
