Five Positive Signs You Passed the MPRE
While many students feel a little anxious while preparing for the MPRE and taking the exam, some report feeling most anxious while waiting for their results! The NCBE provides that MPRE scores are released within five weeks of the exam, though our experience is that it’s usually closer to one month from your test date. While there’s no crystal ball that can help you skip the wait to learn your results, these 5 signs you passed the MPRE may provide you with some peace of mind.
Five Positive Signs You Passed the MPRE
1. You Took the MPRE Seriously
The vast majority of law students in the United States need to pass the MPRE in order to become eligible to practice law. However, some first-time test-takers make the mistake of not seriously preparing for the exam. While you don’t need to spend the same level of time and energy as you would preparing for the bar exam, you still need to take the MPRE seriously! If you put in the time and effort beforehand, you put yourself in the best position to pass.
2. You Hit Your Target Range During Practice
While it’s impossible to know how many questions you need to answer correctly to pass a particular administration of the MPRE, it’s pretty simple to calculate a target range. In general, answering 30-35 questions correctly on the MPRE will land you a passing score (depending on the passing score in your jurisdiction!). If you were able to consistently hit your target range during practice, that’s a good sign you passed the MPRE!
3. You Felt Comfortable During the Test
Think back to the day you took the MPRE — did you feel comfortable while taking the exam? Were you confident in your answers? If you felt pretty good about your responses, this is a positive sign you passed the MPRE.
4. There Were No Unpleasant Surprises
Sometimes, events beyond your control can impact your test performance. Each administration, there are test takers who get a flat tire on the way to the testing center, get a nosebleed during the exam, or experience other unplanned setbacks. If your test went smoothly, that’s a good sign you passed! Even if you faced some unexpected hiccups, don’t let that discourage you — the average score on the MPRE is 93-94.
5. You Completed the Test
The MPRE consists of 60 multiple choice questions in two hours. If you completed the MPRE in the allotted time (without guessing to finish), that’s another sign you passed the MPRE!
