February 2021 Michigan Bar Exam returns to two-day exam

The Michigan Board of Law Examiners announced on October 26, 2020 that the February 2021 Michigan Bar Exam will return to its normal two-day format. This news is after the July 2020 Michigan Bar Exam was a one-day, essay-only, online exam. You can read more about the changes to the July 2020 Michigan Bar Exam here.

February 2021 Michigan Bar Exam returns to two-day exam

Those students studying for the February 2021 Michigan Bar Exam now know the format of the upcoming exam. This was in question after the July 2020 Michigan Bar Exam was a remote, one-day, essay-only exam.

The Michigan Board of Law Examiners announced on October 26, 2020 that the February 2021 exam will return to the normal two-day exam format, and be held on February 23 and 24th, 2021. Day one will be Michigan essays, and day two will be the Multistate Bar Exam (MBE) multiple-choice questions written by the National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE). 

The Board is still deciding between an in-person or remote exam. It said, “The Board is monitoring the status of the pandemic, including CDC and state guidelines, and will notify applicants on this site as soon as a determination is made regarding whether the exam will be administered in-person or remotely.” (Our guess is that this will be a remote exam given the fact that the pandemic shows no signs of slowing down. However, please wait for further decisions from the Board!) 

The NCBE plans to offer MBE materials for both in-person and online exams. Thus, some jurisdictions are deciding right now whether to host the February 2021 exam online or in-person. The Board clarified that the February 2021 Michigan Bar Exam, if held in-person, will NOT take place at the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center. That is where students usually sit for the February exam. It is unclear what the alternative location would be.
