Can An MBE Tutor Help Me Pass The Bar Exam?
The Multistate Bar Exam (MBE) is a 200-question multiple-choice test that is administered in every jurisdiction, with the exception of Louisiana and Puerto Rico. Many students find the MBE to be difficult, mainly because of the multiple-choice aspect of this portion of the bar exam. But, what do you do when you find yourself struggling with those MBE practice questions? In this post, we talk about how a tutor can help you study for this multiple-choice exam!
Can An MBE Tutor Help Me Pass The Bar Exam?
What is the MBE?
The MBE is the 200-question multiple-choice portion of the bar exam. The MBE tests seven different subjects: (1) Contracts and Sales; (2) Constitutional Law; (3) Criminal Law and Procedure (4) Civil Procedure; (5) Evidence; (6) Real Property; and (7) Torts. There are 25 questions assigned to each subject, for a total of 175 total scored questions. The remaining 25 questions are experimental and can be pulled from any of the above subjects. Experimental questions do not factor into your MBE score. Examinees usually take the MBE on the second day of the bar exam, with 100 questions appearing during the three-hour morning session and the remaining 100 questions appearing in the three hour afternoon session.
What is the MBE passing score?
The majority of states do not have a minimum passing MBE score. Generally, if examinees score between 60% and 65% correct, they are likely in, or close to, the passing range. You can learn more about jurisdiction-specific passing MBE scores by visiting one of our prior blog posts!
Ways a tutor can help you study!
So, what are your options if you aren’t quite getting the hang of those practice MBE questions? Working with a bar exam tutor can help you with MBE questions by providing you with tailored feedback as you work through questions and can help you evaluate your compression of the underlying subject matter. A tutor can help you improve your MBE score by helping you work through questions, sharing and helping you implement strategies, and assisting you with the underlying law.
Here are some other ways that tutors can assist MBE test-takers:
Highly tested MBE topics:
A tutor can help you prioritize your studying by putting together a study schedule based on highly-tested topics. A tutor may also be able to present difficult concepts in new ways, helping you to speed up your learning and memorization.
Performance feedback:
A bar prep tutor can show you how to approach the multiple-choice questions as well as show you how to eliminate incorrect answer choices. Talking through questions and explanations can be incredibly beneficial, especially if you are struggling with how to approach questions!
Study plan for a passing score:
Whether you’re studying full-time or juggling a job with bar prep, a bar exam tutor can help you put together a bar exam study schedule that aligns with the areas where you need to focus on as you prepare for the bar exam. They can also help you adjust your bar exam study schedule if there’s a subject you encounter where you need to spend more time or if memorizing the law isn’t taking quite as much time as you originally anticipated.
