The Week Before the Bar Exam: Do’s and Don’ts
Do: Focus Your Study
If you’re hoping to teach yourself several entirely new concepts during the week before the bar exam, think again. The week before the bar exam is the time to focus on the bar exam topics that are highly tested, like negligence, jurisdiction, and hearsay. By focusing on memorizing and applying these subjects, you’ll maximize your points. Check out these posts on the most highly tested MBE subjects, MEE subjects, Michigan bar exam topics, and California essay subjects for more guidance.
Don’t: Limit Yourself to Questions Prepared by Bar Prep Companies
While using bar exam questions created by test prep companies can help you practice concepts, it’s not the only way. The week before the bar exam, make sure you’re using real MBE questions. This way, you’ll be familiar with the structure and formatting of the questions you see on test day. To help practice, you can look through some of these resources we’ve laid out for you here!
Don’t: Take a Practice Bar Exam the Weekend Before Your Exam
One of the worst things you can do during the final days before the bar exam is to take a fully timed exam. If you don’t score well, it may leave you feeling anxious as you head in to take the real thing. At this point, we want you to focus on your mental health and preserving a clear mind for the days ahead. Instead of taking the full exam the weekend before the bar exam, take it at the beginning of the week before your exam. This will give you time to review any areas you’ve missed and feel confident that you’ll be ready for the big day.

Do: Focus on Your Health
One of the worst things you can do during the week before the bar exam is strain your mental and physical health and risk burning out. Instead, strive to get mentally and physically ready to do your best on the exam. Make sure you’re eating well and getting plenty of sleep. Many students find that mindfulness techniques like visualization can help them maintain a positive, confident mindset on the exam. Learn more tips on how to stay calm before the bar exam here!
