Keep A Record Of Incorrect Answers

Every time you answer an MBE question incorrectly keep track of the subject area and the reason for your answer. This strategy applies even if you answered a question correctly but for the wrong reason. Recording incorrect answers and the reasoning behind your answer choices will allow you to figure out exactly what went wrong. Maybe you didn’t know the law or read through the facts too quickly. Pick The Best Answer

You’ve narrowed down the answer choices to only two and realize only one can be the correct choice. They both seem so correct! Nailing every MBE question is meaningless if you can’t answer the questions within the allotted time. For reference, you should be able to answer 33 MBE questions every hour. This breaks down to roughly 9 MBE questions every 15 minutes. In order to accomplish this task with accuracy and precision, you’ll want to start small and build up. Identify The Call Of The Question

Most of the time we read questions from left to right and from start to finish. Depending on your learning style, this may not always be the case when reading MBE questions. Many examinees prefer to look for the “call of the question” before reading the question. The call of the question is generally towards the end of the question and…well…is the question itself. Many times, the call of the question can provide you with a roadmap for what to expect. For example, reading “…can Bob be convicted of burglary under the statute?” gets your mind ready for what to expect.

Skip Questions When Needed

Do not be afraid to skip a question and come back to it later. This is particularly relevant when faced with a long passage that you don’t want to deal with at the moment. Simply indicate on your answer sheet that you need to come back to the question. Use whatever symbol works for you – it can be a star, a dot, an X, or anything else you prefer. Just don’t forget to return to the question at some point!

Practice, Practice, Practice!

There is no amount of practice that can prepare you for the feelings and sensations of taking the bar exam. No matter how much you simulate the exam, it just isn’t the same as taking the real thing. Gameday nerves, pressure, and excitement all present themselves differently on exam day vs during practice. However, the more substantive practice prior to the exam the better. Practice taking full day MBE exams with conditions as close as possible to exam day. That means complete silence, timed questions, and full concentration. Many examinees fail to practice full day MBE exams and suffer from fatigue and loss of concentration as a result. Additionally, the more practice you have actually answering questions the better prepared you will be to handle exam day emotions.
