5 Tips To Be Fully Prepared For LSAT Test Day

1. Time yourself during your prep.

This is absolutely the most important LSAT test day tip we offer. Whether you take a prep course, get private tutoring, or study alone, timing should be a huge focus for when you take the LSAT. Many students get a great grasp of the material while studying, but never get their test-taking skills up the requisite level to do well on the LSAT. In general, it’s much better to work timing into your LSAT prep as soon as possible. Ideally, you should always have a timer running when you study. It may be frustrating at first, but being cognizant of how much time you take to answer questions is crucial to LSAT success. If you’ve already done a decent amount of prep work, don’t worry! It’s never too late to work timing into your routine.

2. Check out LSAC’s materials you can bring to the testing site.

Another LSAT test day tip is to fully review the permitted items you can bring into the testing room. LSAC has a handy page dedicated to the day of the test. It breaks down everything from acceptable writing implements to what kind of food you can bring in. You do not want your test day to get derailed by something as simple as having the wrong type of pencil.

3. Visit your site at least once before test day, and have alternative routes.

Our third LSAT test day tip is to visit your testing site at least once before test day. This is true even if you are taking the test someplace you are familiar with. Even if it is on a different floor or a familiar campus building, take the time to swing by and make sure you know exactly where you are going. That way, in case something unforeseen happens on test day, you can save yourself valuable time by knowing exactly where you need to be.

If you are not familiar with the testing center, make a special effort to go see it. Furthermore, plan alternate routes in case something out of control happens on your test day. Plan out different methods of public transportation, or driving routes, just in case you need to improvise on test day,

4. Get there early!

There is nothing more stressful than running late to an important event. Our next LSAT test day tip is to arrive extra early to your testing site. We agree it’s not much fun waiting around before you can even check in. However, you don’t want to be late and risk being refused entry. So, plan to be at your site 30-45 minutes before registration starts. This should give you ample time to park or walk from public transit.

5. Dress appropriately.

Finally, our last LSAT test day tip is to dress appropriately for the testing center. Generally, this means that you should dress in layers. If you sit for the summer LSAT, definitely bring a sweater with you, even if it is warm outside. Testing centers generally tend to run cold as the weather warms up, and you do not want discomfort to take your focus off the test.
