Struggling with the Multistate Performance Test? Sign Up For JD Advising’s MPT Seminar!
Time and time again, we receive phone calls from students who failed the bar exam because of their Multistate Performance Test (MPT) score. Most students do not know (or often, forget) that while there are only two MPT questions on the bar exam, the MPT is worth 20% of their score in a Uniform Bar Exam jurisdiction. This is the equivalent of 70 multiple choice questions! Since students do not realize the importance of the MPT, they do not adequately prepare for it. Often, they put it off until the last minute. It isn’t until they receive low scores on the MPT that they realize that they must give it more attention. To adequately prepare for the MPT, we recommend our MPT seminar!
What is the MPT Seminar?
The MPT seminar is three hours long, and teaches students about how to tackle the MPT portion of the bar exam. Students who attend the MPT seminar will receive our exclusive MPT “cheat sheets.” These sheets provide guidance on how to format the MPTs and tips on easy ways to obtain points. In addition to the above, students who attend will receive live instruction on how to draft an objective memorandum, persuasive brief and opinion letter, as well as see examples of good student answers. Students will also receive three MPTs ahead of time, and are advised to complete them under timed conditions. Students who complete the MPTs ahead of class will get more out of the seminar!
Who should take the MPT Seminar?
This seminar is geared to help any student who has to write an MPT as part of their bar exam! This includes all Uniform Bar Exam jurisdictions. The states that administer the MPT include: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts (beginning July 2018) Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Palau, Virgin Islands.
When is the seminar?
The MPT seminar is on February 17, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. EST. We chose this date to allow students sufficient time to practice the MPTs, while the tips learned during the seminar are fresh in their mind. Students who sign up for the seminar will receive the materials ahead of time, so they are able to review the material and begin practicing should they choose to.
Who will teach it?
Ambika, a JD Advising’s instructor and private tutor, is teaching the seminar. She co-teaches our Uniform Bar Exam courses, MEE seminar, MEE Course and also privately tutors students nationwide on all portions of the bar exam – MBE, MEE and MPT. Ambika has passed three bar exams herself – California, New York and New Jersey – and has scored in the 95th percentile on the MBE. She is dedicated to helping students conquer the bar exam, and specializes in helping students raise their Uniform Bar Exam Scores.
