Where can I find Multistate Performance Test Practice Questions?
Where can I find Multistate Performance Test Practice Questions?
In Uniform Bar Exam (UBE) jurisdictions, the Multistate Performance Test (MPT) component of the bar exam comprises twenty percent (20%) of the exam. Non-UBE jurisdictions that administer the MPT set their own policies to determine the weight of the MPT in relation to the overall score. Multistate performance test practice questions are key to doing well on the bar exam!
Thus far, 40 U.S. states plus the District of Columbia, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Palau and Virgin Islands, administer the MPT as part of their bar exam, with California and Pennsylvania administering their own version of a performance test. The MPT consists of a significant portion of the overall score in UBE jurisdictions. Thus, we recommend spending time developing a plan and practicing your responses to the items. The best way to do this is by doing and reviewing past practice tests.
Where can I find Multistate Performance Test Practice Questions?
Here are places to look for past MPTs:
1. JD Advising Online Store
Our MPT books differ from any other resource that we know of in that we include:
- The MPT question
- The MPT sample answer promulgated by the National Conference of Bar Examiners
- A model student answer that has received a high score on the bar exam. (This is invaluable for formatting purposes and to see what is realistic to write in the 1.5 hours you have to write an MPT!)
You can purchase our books electronically or in a hard copy. You can buy all of the MPTs from 2009 on (potentially excluding the most recent exam). Or you can just buy specific sets (e.g. persuasive briefs). Visit our online MPT store here.
2. NCBE Website
You can find MPTs from February 2007 through July 2011 if you go to the “Study Aids” section of the NCBE website. For each examination, you can access the file, library, and MPT point sheets. The bar examiners’ point sheets are a valuable resource for many reasons, including determining which facts are relevant to recognize and discuss. The bar examiner’s point sheets also provide an in-depth review of the applicable facts, the relevant case law and a thorough analysis demonstrating how to best organize your answers to gain the most amount of points. (You can also pay to have MPTs from certain years!)
2. State Bar Websites
Georgia has past MPT questions and best student answers available here. These do not include a model answer. However, the student answers show how to draft a realistic answer to earn the most amount of points.
Maryland, New York and Texas also have good representative answers available on their websites: New York, Maryland, and Texas.
3. For those taking other bar exams:
For those taking the Pennsylvania bar exam, past performance tests and answers are here. For those interested in the California bar exam, past performance tests and selected answers can be found here.
