Can You Pass The Bar Without A Prep Course?
The preparation and studying that goes into taking the Bar Exam is always a hot topic. For students who have yet to take the Bar Exam, they hear many stories about non-stop studying, and discussions about bar exam preparatory courses are common. Some will remark that they’ve heard studying and preparing for the Bar Exam “is like a full-time job.” Others will claim that they “know someone who studied for hundreds of hours and didn’t pass.” We’ll put it this way – studying for the bar exam isn’t always enjoyable nor easy. However, passing the bar exam is doable and thousands of recent law school graduates successfully take part in the process every year, the bulk of whom participate in a bar exam prep course. Can you pass the bar exam without a prep course? We’ll discuss this in more detail below.
Can You Pass The Bar Without A Prep Course?
How important is it to take a bar prep course? Is taking and passing the bar exam something that you could study for on your own? The short answer is yes. You do not need to take a bar exam prep course in order to take and pass the bar exam. You also don’t technically need instructions when building furniture from Ikea. However, instructions make the process a lot easier and less frustrating, right? Although you can pass the bar exam without a prep course, a bar exam prep course holds some serious benefits.
Structure
One benefit to taking a bar prep course is the structure and schedule a bar prep course provides. The bar exam covers a large amount and variety of information. That means any time you spend studying and preparing needs to be focused. Bar exam courses provide students with a study schedule that details what topics to study and for how long.
Materials
The second benefit of taking a bar prep course is the wide range of materials they provide to you. While you probably have outlines and notes from law school, bar prep courses take things to another level. These courses provide students with specifically curated outlines, notes, practice questions, and other supplemental materials all based on the material tested on the bar exam. In addition, bar prep courses provide their own lectures!
Feedback
The third benefit of taking a bar prep course is the feedback offered when submitting practice essays. Most mainstream bar prep companies offer feedback on practice essay answers. That means a real human will read, assess, and grade your practice answer. Having feedback on your performance can help you to fine-tune your preparation approach. Bar prep courses also have a network of team members ready to answer any questions you might have. This includes questions about why a certain MBE answer was wrong, how to apply the law on a certain subject, etc.
Statistical Support
Finally, another benefit of taking a bar prep course is that you’re simply more likely to pass the exam. Many companies not only provide but advertise, their pass rates. The data is straightforward. If you take a bar prep course, perform the work, and adhere to the program – you’re simply more likely to pass. Bar prep courses can provide the backbone and support you need to properly prepare for the bar exam.
