How To Make MBE Flashcards (Without Wasting Time!)
How To Make MBE Flashcards (Without Wasting Time!)
Learning all of the material for the bar exam can be a daunting task. The MBE portion is especially overwhelming for many people. When the examiners can ask dozens of questions about one subject, they can focus on much smaller rules. Students find themselves studying MBE subjects much more thoroughly since so many more of your points on the exam will be earned there. It can be helpful to make MBE flashcards in order to learn the law. However, you have to do this efficiently! Making flashcards can be incredibly time consuming and ineffective if not done properly. It’s also possible that making flashcards is not a good idea for you as a learner. See this post for more information on whether you should be making flashcards at all!
How To Make MBE Flashcards (Without Wasting Time!)
If you decide to make MBE flashcards, consider these three tips on how to do so without wasting too much of your valuable time:
1. Make MBE flashcards for the rules you are struggling with.
The purpose of using flashcards is to help you memorize a topic. Why make MBE flashcards on a rule that you already understand? That is just wasting time that you could be spending going over something that isn’t clicking with you. When you are first starting a subject, try to make it through all of the material and then assess what does and doesn’t make sense to you. If there are a rules that you just don’t get, then you can make MBE flashcards for those. But don’t waste your time doing extra work on concepts that you’re good at. You’ll end up never touching those flashcards again, and then what was the point of making them in the first place?
2. Focus on the highly tested areas of each subject.
As mentioned before, there is a ton of material that can be covered on the MBE. Luckily for you, some topics are tested a lot more frequently than others. If you are going to make MBE flashcards, focus on the rules that are the most likely to come up. You don’t want to spend an excessive amount of time making flashcards for rules you probably won’t end up seeing. There is too much information for you to learn. You’ll never get through it all if you’re worried about memorizing every tiny detail. One of the most important keys to success on the bar exam is prioritization. You have to concentrate on the material that will get you the most points. Thus, it is a much better use of your time to make MBE flashcards only for the most commonly tested topics.
You can find a list of the highly tested areas of law on the MBE here.
3. Don’t cram a ton of information all onto one card.
When you are reviewing your flashcards, the goal is to see a key word and then be able to repeat the necessary rule or concept associated with it, using the proper terminology. You can review these flashcards over and over until you get the definition right, and you can do it quickly. If you make MBE flashcards with an extensive amount of information on them, you’ll never be able to repeat it all. This isn’t an efficient use of your flashcards, or your time. Try to limit your flashcards to a single rule that you will be able to repeat, and then move on. If you are looking to write out the information, consider trying to replicate parts your outlines instead of making MBE flashcards. Flashcards are much more useful for memorizing smaller, individual pieces of information, not long paragraphs.
