What Are The Types Of California Performance Test Tasks?
While the newest version of the California Performance Test has only been in use since 2017, we’re already seeing patterns in the types of tasks assigned. For many test-takers, understanding these patterns is a great way to prepare. To succeed on the California Performance Test, you need to know what types of tasks are tested. To help you focus your study and get the best results possible, we’ve put together this list of some of the tasks assigned during recent California Performance Test administrations.
What Are The Types Of California Performance Test Tasks?
An Overview of California Performance Test Tasks
Over the last few years, the California Performance Test has assigned two objective memos, two persuasive briefs, and one persuasive letter. No matter what your task is, you’ll need to read the instructions carefully. For example, sometimes instructions specifically say not to include a statement of facts. However, if the instructions are silent, you should include a brief statement of the facts.
Addressing Each Type of Task on the California Placement Test
The California Placement Test usually provides substantial direction and guidance for how test-takers should complete their task. For example, three out of the four recent task memos listed the specific arguments that test-takers needed to address. If the task memo does not identify the specific arguments you should address, you’ll need to identify and evaluate the key legal issues on your own.
Approaching the File on the California Performance Test
At first glance, the File you receive for your California Performance Test task will appear to be short. Sometimes, the File contains just a single document! Don’t let appearances lull you into complacency, however. You’ll need to be thorough in your review of the record. A good answer will draw on all of the factual information provided. In the past, file materials have included cases, interview transcripts, incident reports, plea agreements, and other items.
How Can I Practice for the California Performance Test?
In addition to using California Performance Tests from recent administrations, you can also use Multistate Performance Tests (MPTs) to practice. Both are designed to be completed in 90 minutes, so practicing can help you become more organized and efficient once test day comes around.
