Michigan Bar Exam Passage Rate by School for the July 2016 Michigan Bar Exam

The Michigan Board of Law Examiners’ has released the Michigan bar exam passage rate by school for the July 2016 Michigan bar exam. In this post, we tell you the overall Michigan bar exam passage rate as well as the Michigan bar exam passage rate by school.

Michigan Bar Exam Passage Rate for the July 2016 Bar Exam

Overall 66% of total applicants passed (458 passed, 237 failed of 695 total applicants). This is an average to high passage rate for Michigan July bar exam takers.

The passage rate by school is as follows (ranked from highest to lowest):

• University of Michigan – 84% (31 passed, 6 failed, 37 takers total)
• Out of state law schools – 79% (83 passed, 22 failed, 105 takers total)
• Michigan State University – 79% (118 passed, 32 failed, 150 takers total)
• Wayne State University – 75% (96 passed, 32 failed, 128 takers total)
• University of Detroit Mercy – 58% (50 passed, 36 failed, 86 takers total)
• University of Toledo – 57% (8 passed, 6 failed, 14 takers total)
• Thomas Cooley Law School – 41% (72 passed, 103 failed, 175 takers total)

Similar to the February bar exam passage rate, University of Michigan Law School, out of state law schools, and Michigan State University Law School are very similar in terms of passage rate. They have the highest bar exam passage rates in the state. Wayne State University Law School trails closely behind. University of Detroit Mercy Law School, and University of Toledo are about 20 points behind Wayne State University Law School. The WMU Cooley Law School passage rate fell this administration, with just 41% of bar exam takers passing.
