Bar Exam Study Gifts
Bar Exam Study Gifts
If you know someone who is taking the bar exam, chances are that they are under an unbelievable amount of stress. Are you wondering if there’s anything you could do to lighten their load or just lighten their mood? Listed below are our best bar exam study gifts for that certain someone in your life (and just in time for the holiday season!)
Bar Exam Study Gifts
1. Offer to do something for them.
Not all bar exam study gifts have to be bought in stores. One thing that is certain during bar preparation time: reviewers are pressed for time. They may not have time to go grocery shopping or run an errand or walk their dog. So, by offering to do one of these chores for them, it is one less thing that they have to worry about. And you can probably trust us that they will be more than happy to take you up on the offer.
2. Bring them a refreshment.
Many times when I was preparing for the bar examination, I would get a visit from my friends or family during lunchtime. They would either bring me a coffee or a meal. That simple short visit was so refreshing and appreciated, and it helped re-energize me. I encourage you to bring your bar student some food or drink or perhaps even find time to sit down with them for a meal. This will help ease the stress of them having to prepare a meal, and it gives them the opportunity to spend a little time with you! Again, bar exam study gifts do not need to be expensive or bought! Sometimes your time is just as valuable!
Another thing is: Since bar exam studiers are under such time pressure, when you schedule a meeting, say you will keep it short–i.e. an hour–then only stay for that amount of time. That way, they can plan their day. And your visit will serve as a great break!
3. Buy them a massage or spa gift.
Bar prep students are usually sitting all day studying. This is quite taxing on the body, and can cause stiff muscles. What better gift to reduce this strain on the body than a massage? If your bar student is not a fan of massages, a facial or a manicure and pedicure will also do the trick of adding a spare hour or two of relaxation for him or her.
4. Give the money to go towards bar prep course or tutor.
Bar review courses can be costly. So if you know someone who needs assistance financing their bar prep course, a little bit of extra help might be just the gift they need. Many of our students will start mini holiday “fundraisers” to cover the cost of tutoring. And family members will buy a session or two for the student. This can be a great way to be super-supportive to a bar exam student.

5. Make them a care package.
Bar students are often running low on either coffee, food, office supplies, or all three. So, what better gift than to create a care package for them and stuff it with highlighters, notecards, earplugs, healthy food, red bull (or a starbucks gift card), and other things that you think they would need during this study period. They will appreciate the items and also the time you took to put them all together.
6. Get them some office supplies.
Get them a pack of highlighters, notecards, colored pens, or sticky notes. Bar students are using these supplies in constant rotation. I am sure your bar student will welcome the replenishment of these.
7. Give them a gift card or a subscription.
During this preparation time, many students are often running low on cash, or have no source of income. Now would be the perfect time to bestow a gift card to Starbucks, Panera, or any other places that you know your bar student loves to visit. Who doesn’t love a good gift card? If your bar student is a lover of music, another idea would be purchase for them a subscription to a music streaming service, like Spotify.
8. Get them the Bar Exam Passing the Bar Board Game.
Yes, such a board game exists. This is a great idea for the bar student and it might just make studying for the bar seem fun! You can purchase it from Amazon, here.
9. Give them a greeting card.
Sometimes we don’t know what to say to bar students going through this difficult time. Lucky for us, our friends at Hallmark know exactly what to say when it comes to encouraging words. Getting your bar student a greeting card, is a small yet effective way to demonstrate that you care.
10. Get them a book.
I know what your thinking, probably the last thing a bar student wants to see is ANOTHER book. However, in my experience, most bar students are open to the idea of a book that will help ease the tension and stress of the bar exam.
There is a wonderful book called Daily Reflections For Bar Exam Study: An Inspirational Companion For Law Students And Experienced Attorneys Taking The Bar. A friend of mine gave me a copy during my bar preparation and I found it extremely encouraging and helpful Find it here.
