I came to JD advising after failing my first attempt. I was extremely weak on my MBE and did poor in my essays.
Thanks to my one-on-one tutoring sessions I was able to raise my overall score by almost 30 points.
The best part was the outlines, I literally visualized the diagrams and color-coded outlines during my exam.
Overall, JD advising was a life saver for me, I would never have passed if not for them!

I would recommend Julia Zielger and JD Advising to any person taking the Bar in a UBE jurisdiction! She put together a study schedule that was tailored to my specific needs and really helped me fully understand concepts and build my confidence to take this exam for a second time and pass it! We worked on essays and multiple choice questions during our sessions together and had in-depth discussions over areas of law that I struggled to really grasp and understand. She was able to break down those harder topics in a way that was easy for me to follow, understand, and (most importantly) remember. I also really appreciated how she asked me to talk through my reasoning when answering questions when stuck between two answer choices. I’m so grateful to have used this program. My only regret is not using it the first time I studied for the Bar! If you want this to be your first and/or last time taking the Bar in your jxs then make the investment and use JD Advising and take advantage of having a tutor, like Julia, to help you pass!

After failing the exam bar exam twice, I knew I had to do things differently this time. Working a full-time job and studying for the bar was a challenge for me to do on my own. I wanted to hire someone capable of keeping me on track and holding me accountable for doing the work. I searched online for tutors but did not feel comfortable enough to hire them because there was little to no indication that they knew enough about the UBE. I chose JD Advising because they are a reputable company that has done the research on hiring tutors to help examinees be successful on the bar. It is a little on the expensive side, but it was totally worth it. You can be confident that you’ll be paired with a tutor with ample experience with the UBE.
My weakness was writing. After discussing my weaknesses with the JD Advising coordinator, I was paired with Ambika Mehta. Ambika had a high level of understanding of what the bar examiners are looking for. Ambika requested I turn in a sample essay at the start of my prep journey. These essays allowed her to see how disorganized my writing was. She helped me organize my essays in a coherent manner that flowed logically with the issues presented in the essays, and the law that addresses these issues. She detected my weak areas and worked with me to strengthen those areas. I specifically asked her to light a fire under me if my performance on my bar prep assignments did not meet high enough standards, especially as I worked to balance studying and my full-time job. Not only did she teach me the law, but she also motivated me through a mentally taxing journey and instilled confidence in me that I had the skills to pass.
At the end of the tutoring course, she provided me with a mock exam under timed conditions — exactly as it was during a real bar experience. After submitting the mock exam, she graded it and assigned me a second mock exam without the MBE’s. Having done both exams under timed conditions allowed us both to evaluate how I would perform under pressure.
Having a tutor does not mean they will do the job for you. Their job is to smooth rough edges that you are having issues with. The student has to put in the time, effort, and determination to study. Ambika is a motivational and highly skilled bar tutor. To be paired with Ambika is a recipe for success. I am thankful I was paired with Ambika because she was definitely the person for the job. I recommend anyone to be paired with Ambika regardless of if you are struggling with the MBEs, essays, or MPTs.
After working with Ambika, I took the exam and I passed on the third time with a score of 279. I cannot thank her enough for everything she did for me!

After failing the Tennessee bar exam three times, I decided to try JD Advising. BOY AM I GLAD I DID.
I would HIGHLY recommend Sydney Hanson as a tutor. From day one, she laid out a plan that allowed me to understand my path to success. Her knowledge of the law was unquestioned and any part she did not know immediately, she was able to access and clear topics up very quickly.
1. Support: I would say about 2/3 of my study issues were confidence in knowing the material. You aren’t going to learn it all, so having confidence that you are doing your best and trying to learn as much as you can is crucial. Sydney CONSISTENTLY encouraged me that I was doing well and that she felt good about where I was in my knowledge throughout our time. I took her words of encouragement all the way to my seat at the bar exam.
2. Outlines: The JD Advising outlines were helpful and the examples immensely helped me understand various legal concepts. I would say that the fill-in explanations need more depth. Often I would try to understand an example only to find that the explanation was overly broad and, in my opinion, insufficient to answer a bar exam question. Nevertheless, the outlines were easy to follow and broke the material down to simple, easy to understand terms. The cheat sheets are GREAT. I found that (per Sydney’s recommendation) reviewing the cheat sheets at night kept me sharp. It’s easy to put it off or not do it at all. However, failing to review at the end of the day, even if just for 30 minutes, could lead to missing practice questions, which leads to potential confusion/frustration that could easily have been avoided.
3. Study Time: JD Advising is different from Themis and Barbri in that your tutor does not go through all of the law in every topic. Rather, it is on YOU to read the outlines, make notes, try to learn the law, and prepare like you are going to class. Then, when you meet with your tutor, you can ask questions about topics which you found were more difficult to understand. This helped me a ton because when I did another program I would “wait” on the next lecture (passively learning). With JD Advising, you HAVE to engage and prepare, then you and your tutor dive deeper into concepts. Sydney did a GREAT job teaching me subtopics that were giving me trouble. My brain would not comprehend time, place, and manner in Con Law and Sydney went beyond the call of duty to make sure I understood it by the time we were done. She must have given me ten examples not in the outlines (lol), but I eventually understood it better. ****We also had an emergency hearsay session that took me from not understanding hearsay at all to having confidence that I could handle virtually ANY hearsay problem.****
3. Access: Sydney was very accessible and answered/handled every question/issue/freakout I had with a quiet confidence. She was a constructive and honest grader on the MEEs. Not a drill instructor, but thoroughly explained where I needed to write more or where I missed a topic in an understandable way. She NEVER ridiculed me or made me feel stupid and was very approachable.
NOTE: I coupled the JD Advising with AdaptiBar questions. I scored high enough to practice in virtually every UBE jurisdiction.
Overall, I would highly recommend JD Advising for those who can afford it. If you can, request Sydney because she is AWESOME!
Sincerely,
One of the 45% of takers who passed the February 2022 bar.

I took the July 2021 Bar Exam and scored a 258. I knew that in order to pass the exam I would need to change the way I studied and prepared. JD Advising offered private tutoring at an affordable rate and I couldn’t pass on the opportunity. I was paired with Albert who simplified complex problems in every area that is tested on the bar. Albert also helped me strengthen my writing skills with weekly essays, randomized pop quizzes (highly effective), and provided coaching and encouragement that gave me the mental edge I needed to succeed on the February 2022 exam. I scored a 295 in February which is a 37 point increase from July! I can’t thank Albert and JD advising enough for helping me realize my dream of becoming a licensed attorney. I HIGHLY recommend their services for first-time and re-takers. It’s the best money you’ll ever spend!
