How To Avoid A Bar Exam Meltdown On Exam Day
How To Avoid A Bar Exam Meltdown On Exam Day
You’ve probably heard the horror stories of students taking the bar exam and experiencing some sort of catastrophe. From computers crashing to applicants crying – the bar exam can be somewhat of a rollercoaster. JD Advising has helped thousands of students pass the bar exam, which means we know how important preparing both academically and mentally is. Below we discuss how to avoid a bar exam meltdown on exam day.
How To Avoid A Bar Exam Meltdown On Exam Day
Many students focus much of their energy on learning and memorizing material for the bar exam. This is completely understandable! However, students sometimes forget some of the more practical aspects involved with preparing for the bar exam. Here are our top three pieces of advice to avoid a meltdown on exam day.
Check The Tech
Almost every applicant takes the Bar Exam using their laptop. Our first piece of advice is to check your laptop components. For example, make sure everything is charging correctly, that the screen is displaying properly, and that your keyboard is functioning. Additionally, pre-install the exam software to ensure it is compatible with your laptop. If you’re particularly concerned about the health of your laptop, we recommend obtaining a professional laptop diagnosis. Having a special piece of software run through your laptop from top to bottom can help to identify hidden issues. This can save you from experiencing a laptop failure during the bar exam.
Practice The Old-Fashioned Way
Despite your best efforts, sometimes your laptop decides the Bar Exam is the perfect time to announce its retirement. While we wouldn’t wish this upon our worst enemy, these things do happen (albeit rarely!) from time to time. Our second piece of advice to avoid a bar exam tragedy is to practice writing out essay answers by hand. While writing out essay answers before the test may seem cumbersome, it can be a lifesaver on exam day. You’d be surprised at how rusty many people are at writing by hand. If your laptop dies during the bar exam, you’ll be happy you took the time to tackle some practice questions by hand.
Rehearse The Big Day
There’s a reason big events are rehearsed a number of times before taking place. Weddings, concerts, theatrical performances – all are rehearsed ahead of time. The bar exam should be no different. Our third piece of advice is to make time to simulate exam day. We’re sure you’ve taken enough practice tests to make your head spin. However, have you tried waking up at the same time you would on test day? If you’re taking the test in person, have you taken the time to drive to the testing center? Figured out what you’re going to wear? Figured out what you’re going to eat for lunch? These are all things that can be “rehearsed” before the bar exam to avoid any meltdowns on exam day.
