Who should start bar prep early?
You might be wondering whether early bar prep is right for you. We have found that early bar prep is ideal for the following students:
- Students who graduate near the bottom of their law school class.
- Students who struggled a lot in their first year courses.
- Students who did not take a lot of bar exam-specific material during their second and third years of law school.
- Students that plan on working (or who have a similar time-consuming obligation) during bar prep.
- Students who are anxious about the bar exam and simply desire to get a head start.
- Students who have failed the bar exam in the past.

How early should I start bar prep?
Many students start one month early (July takers start in April and February takers start in November) but we have had students start much earlier than that (we’ve even had students start an entire semester earlier than their peers!). How early you begin preparing for the bar exam will depend on your schedule as well as the factors mentioned above. The more you struggle with bar exam topics, the wiser it is to start as early as possible.
If you are not sure how early you should start, please contact us below and we can discuss what is right for you and come up with a schedule together.
What will we do during this early bar prep period?
After you contact us, we will create a bar exam program that is tailored to your individual needs. Typically, for those who start one month early, we are able to go over a couple major difficult multistate topics and (depending on which bar exam you are taking) some state subjects as well. If you are taking the Michigan bar exam, we can cover several Michigan topics. The amount that we cover is made on a case-by-case basis based on how much time you have, how much you struggle with the concepts, and your motivation to start early.
We generally cover topics that students feel most anxious about so that students can take their time with those subjects and get them out of the way before the traditional bar prep period starts.
