When To Start Studying For The MPRE: Many law students ask us when to start studying for the MPRE.  The MPRE is something that many law students tend to (or at least want to!) ignore until it is too late.  The assumption is that the MPRE is easy enough that they will be able to study sufficiently at the last minute.  While this is possible for some students, we don’t recommend it!  It is far too tempting to take success on the MPRE for granted. This approach can cost you in the long run!  The MPRE tests a lot of information and you need time to learn it.

When To Start Studying For The MPRE

We advise that you start studying for the MPRE about a month before the exam.  Thus, if you are taking the MPRE this August, you should start studying in early to mid-July.  This will give you enough time to really learn the material to the level of detail necessary.  Of course, there are situations in which starting even earlier would be beneficial.  For example, if you’ve never taken a professional responsibility course before (or if the course that you did take didn’t use the Model Rules), or maybe you know you will be really busy with work or school, or if you’ve failed the MPRE before.
