What To Do The Night Before The Bar Exam
What To Do The Night Before The Bar Exam
All of the time dedicated to studying, preparing, and practicing comes down to Day One of the Bar Exam. Many students feel as though they need to take advantage of every waking minute to maximize study and preparation time. For the most part, that mindset will serve you well during the bar prep process. However, there is one exception that students should be aware of. The day, and more importantly the night, before the Bar Exam.
What To Do The Night Before The Bar Exam
The night before the Bar Exam is a strange time for bar examinees. Many students feel nervous, anxious, unprepared, and eager to get the test completed. These emotions are all totally normal and are even to be expected. The night before the test almost resembles a spartan on the eve of a great battle. Think about it, you’ve spent the last couple of months studying and preparing for a difficult exam. You have every right to have certain emotions the night before the Bar Exam!
Let’s take a look at what we recommend you should be doing the night before the Bar Exam. Whether you’re approaching the night before the Bar Exam or are reading this before the big day tomorrow, let’s go! These recommendations should help to leave you relaxed and recharged heading into day one of the Bar Exam.
Do Not Attempt to Study
We know that we’re starting off this list with something you shouldn’t do but we just can’t leave this out. Check out more of our thoughts on whether you should study the day before the bar exam here. If you don’t understand certain subject matter the night before the Bar Exam, it’s not going to “click” suddenly. If you find yourself the night before the Bar Exam trying to learn or review a difficult concept, stop yourself. By panic studying, you’re only going to work yourself up even more than you already are. It’s totally acceptable and understandable that you don’t have a full grasp over every Bar Exam subject. Frankly, it would be silly and unproductive to try and learn every detail of every concept.
Remember, the Bar Exam isn’t about knowing everything on the test. The Bar Exam is about knowing just enough to pass. So relax, put down the books, and close the laptop.

Make Sure You Are Logistically Prepared
The hard part is over. The preparation, the lectures, the outlines, the supplements, boy we could go on for ages! Studying and preparing for the Bar Exam is an accomplishment in and of itself. Take some time to appreciate and be proud of what you have accomplished up until this point.
Once you’ve finished basking in your own glory, make sure that you have everything you’ll need to take the test. Don’t forget to review our packing list before the big day! The morning of the Bar Exam (that’s another post altogether) can be hectic. You want to make it easy on yourself and have everything ready to go. Make sure to have tested the exam software on your laptop. Have your approved Bar Exam items in a clear plastic bag and make sure tomorrow’s breakfast is quick and easy. Learn what to eat before and during the bar exam here! If you haven’t figured out parking or your route to the testing site, take some time and review your plan. Make sure that you have a lunch packed for the Bar Exam and that you have somewhere to store it. The last thing that you want to run into is some logistical issue that will only distract and frazzle you.
Relax, Relax, Relax
We know it sounds counterintuitive but relaxing and taking your mind off the test the night before is highly recommended. Your brain on bar prep is like a car driving and driving and driving. Soon enough, the car needs some downtime to fuel up, have its tire pressures checked, and grab an oil change. The same is true of students preparing for the Bar Exam. Take the night before the Bar Exam to do something that has nothing to do with the exam. Watch a movie with friends, play video games, or exercise. You know, the type of activities you used to love before bar prep became a part of your life.
