“My bar prep experience involved me studying by using both Barbri and JD Advising. The only reason I utilized Barbri at all is because I had a $500 discount toward their bar prep program, which I won while I was in law school and didn’t want to go to waste. However, I just had a sense – after looking at what Barbri had to offer and based on what I heard from prior bar exam takers – that Barbri doesn’t place enough emphasis on preparing you for the essay portion of the exam. Also, their outlines turned out to be too burdensome. JD Advising provides you with all the law you need to know while presenting it in a more succinct fashion and highlighting the more highly tested legal concepts.
My suspicion that I would be in bad shape and greater risk of failing the bar exam had I relied on Barbri for essay prep was confirmed when I could clearly tell in the midst of bar prep that I was getting so much more out of preparing for essay subjects and memorizing law for them through studying my JD Advising materials. And that is what I did, as suggested by Rosie of JD Advising – I mainly used JD Advising’s materials for essay prep and disregarded the Barbri ones so that I wouldn’t get too overwhelmed.
While I scored well on the MBE, I scored even better on the essay portion. I think I would have scored lower (maybe much lower) on the essays had I relied on any bar prep course other than JD Advising for the essay portion. Their expertise is second to none. Their advice is great. They are available to answer your questions, guide you, and put you at ease. Studying for the bar is definitely a taxing endeavor and was one of the hardest things I have ever done. But with JD Advising I felt like I had a real shot at making my dream come true if I simply did my best and pushed myself as much as I could. JD Advising helped make bar prep feel somewhat manageable – leading to gained knowledge and confidence as the bar exam neared.
Go with JD Advising for both the MBE and essay prep – I would have utilized them for the MBE also had I not had a discount for another company that I didn’t want to go to waste. I am of the belief most bar prep companies will do a fine job preparing you for the MBE, and you just need to do a lot of practice questions and read answer explanations to increase your knowledge regarding why you are getting questions wrong (and do this even with the questions you get right). But when it comes to essay prep – JD Advising is certainly the best out there – far ahead of their competition. Go with JD Advising!!!

It has been almost three years since I graduated from law school. I came to JD advising after unsuccessfully taking the MPRE for a third time. I used the free MPRE course and study guide and I passed with room to spare. The lessons just seemed to click with me. That inspired me to purchase the program for the UBE Exam. I had attempted the Texas bar exam twice before, unsuccessfully and was originally signed up for the Feb 2021 UBE, but the winter storm pushed Texas takers to the July 2021 UBE exam. JD advising worked with me and extended my access. The support team was always available to answer my questions and help out. I used Barbari, Kaplan, and Emmanuel materials for my previous bar prep and never had any success. JD Advising materials were the ones that worked. The way JD advising organizes the study program, outlines/videos and assignments make the material digestible and retainable. The quick sheets are literal lifesavers and the way the information is charted and organized, it was well worth the extra investment. I was unfamiliar with some of the UBE essay subjects, but through daily readings of the quick sheets I had enough raw law committed to memory that I was confident in my ability to write a high scoring essay. Long story short, I passed with a score high enough to clear all jurisdiction requirements. Seeing your name on that pass list is surreal, especially when you’ve tried a couple times before and you know that sinking feeling when results come out. The bar exam is mental, and the confidence of knowing the material is so important. I wish I would have known about JD advising when I first started law school. The information lawy out within the MBE and Essay Quick Sheets can help every law student from 1L to bar prep, the best investment I made was in myself, and then in JD Advising.
