Students often reach out to us complaining that their bar exam prep company is either giving them dismal scores with scathing criticism or they are providing them with extremely high scores and compliments.  Both of these situations scare students! They feel that they are not receiving realistic feedback on their practice questions. This only adds to the anxiety during bar exam prep.

JD Advising specializes in feedback through MEE grading.  We’ve read thousands of bar exam essays, and know what graders like to see on the bar exam.  Our MEE grading provides students with feedback that will be beneficial on the actual exam. It is never provided as a method to keep students engaged in bar prep.  We also do not simply copy and paste model answers into our feedback. Rather, we correct the law and structural/organizational defects. How do we do this?

We work with students and assign them to a grader who specializes in the type of essay exam they are working on.  When essay grading, it’s important to maintain consistency, so we ensure that the same grader will provide feedback on all of the student’s essays and document their progress.  Next, we assign the student three essays for them to answer.  We assign essays that  test topics that we think are coming up.

Once we receive a student’s answer, we review it. Then, we provide extensive and personalized essay feedback.  Some of the things that we look for are whether:

  • you know the substantive law,
  • your organization is good,
  • you analyzing the fact pattern sufficiently.
  • Further, we give you feedback on how to improve your weaknesses and capitalize upon your strength.
