These questions are general but the answers are personal to you. The answers to these questions will be different for everyone. The important thing is to reflect honestly on what works well for you and what doesn’t. If you are unsure how to answer some of these questions, think about what worked/works well for you in law school or what was beneficial for you while you were studying for the LSAT. If you find that anything is especially important to you, we recommend asking the company(s) you are considering using for bar prep if they can provide you with insight. Remember, bar exam companies are there to offer you a service. As a potential paying customer, you should be able to get answers to all of your questions prior to making a commitment to any course.

Do I learn better from live or prerecorded lectures? 

There are advantages and disadvantages to both live and prerecorded lectures. Live lectures often keep students more engaged and accountable. However, they offer less flexibility in terms of when you attend the lecture. Prerecorded lectures are very flexible – you can watch them when you want and where you want. You often have the option to speed up or slow down the lecture. However, if you need accountability or if you are easily distracted, a live lecture may be for you.

Do I value being able to ask questions?

Many Uniform Bar Exam Courses do not allow you to ask questions during class. (We do!) Or they allow you to email questions in but often send unhelpful responses and take several days to get back to a student. Some students don’t mind this. For others, being able to ask questions is very important. Think about the kind of learner you are. In law school, did you find it helpful to meet with professors? Did you ask questions in class? What about when you were studying for the LSAT?

Do I value regular essay feedback?

Check to see how many essays your Uniform Bar Exam course grades. We grade essays every week, for example. But some courses grade only one or two essays throughout the entire course. If you struggle with the written portion of the exam, or if you value the reassurance to know if you’re on track, whether you receive regular essay feedback is an important question to ask.

Does the Uniform Bar Exam course offer real MBE questions?

We truly believe that real MBE questions are the way to go. There is no sense in ignoring this valuable resource! Some commercial courses only offer course-invented questions and do not offer past released MBE questions. Check with your prospective course to see what they offer. If you choose a course that does not offer real MBE questions, it is a good idea to set aside some extra money to get real MBE questions separately from your course. This will help you maximize your exam score.

Do I value individualized attention and feedback?

If you take a larger course, you will likely get less personal feedback. If you take a smaller course, you will probably receive more individualized attention and feedback. Some students need the accountability. And others do not. When you choose a Uniform Bar Exam course, think about your 1L year where you probably did not receive much regular feedback. Would you have preferred more? Or was that okay with you?

Does my course tell me which areas of law are highly tested? 

Some courses treat all subjects and topics equally. Professors (who are not bar exam experts) teach the course. And many students do not know how to study efficiently. Check to see if your course gives you a gameplan for studying efficiently by outlining the highly tested areas of law.
