 If you are struggling with the Multistate Essay Exam (MEE), it is a really good idea to consider getting an MEE tutor. The MEE is worth a significant amount on many bar exams. If you are in a Uniform Bar Exam state, then the MEE is worth 30% of your total score! (That is the same as 105 MBE questions!!) Students fail the bar exam every administration because of a low MEE score that they could have improved ahead of time. Therefore, do not avoid studying for this portion of the exam!

An MEE tutor can help you improve your score significantly by identifying what you struggle with, and give you tips to help you write a high-scoring MEE answer. For example, an MEE tutor can help you with all of the following:

1. Organization

Many students struggle with organizing their Multistate Essay Exam answers in a logical and orderly fashion. They often struggle with open-ended question stems. Thus, they miss out on easy points (and sometimes end up confusing or repeating themselves!).

We see several students waste precious time that they could be earning points solely due to poor organization. An MEE tutor can help correct this ahead of time.

2. The substantive law

Some students really struggle with different areas of the Multistate Essay Exam (ahem, Secured Transactions!). And some of it is really difficult! Our outlines, in conjunction with our tutoring services, make the substantive law much clearer.

We spent hours upon hours making our fantastic MEE outlines, which demystify difficult areas of law. They also provide substantive charts and diagrams to make things easier to understand and remember.

3. Focusing on the highly tested issues

The MEE does not test all issues equally. By spending hours reviewing issues that have only been tested once or twice and not setting aside enough time to review issues that have been tested multiple times during the last ten years, students become frustrated and feel like they aren’t getting anywhere.

Unfortunately, many students do not study efficiently for the MEE because commercial courses do not tell them the highly tested issues. In fact, many commercial courses do not even cover some of the highly-tested issues!

4. Issue spotting 

Students often do not realize how the bar examiners are testing certain issues. In reality, there are several common patterns and triggers that the bar examiners’ use to test certain issues. For example, sometimes in a free speech claim, they will ask if someone is guilty of trespass. The answer is “no” if they have a valid claim of exercising their First Amendment rights. But some students get side-tracked talking about Torts!

By learning common patterns and triggers, students can improve their ability to issue spot and get more points.

5. Applying the substantive law to the facts

Even students  well versed in substantive law often struggle applying law to the facts. They often fail to address ambiguities or discuss multiple approaches to an issue. An MEE tutor can help you identify how you can bolster your analysis to increase your score.

6. Writing and grammar

Basic writing and grammar tips can go a long way and make your MEE shine. We help students with basic writing tips, structure, and grammar. Sometimes students don’t realize how bad their handwriting is (in which case we encourage typing!). Or  they don’t realize that they can make basic changes that go a long way — for example, adding paragraph breaks to break up very long essays or emphasizing key legal language.

7. Time management on the MEE

Part of what makes the MEE so daunting is that you have to analyze so many issues in each 30-minute essay. An MEE tutor can tell you how to manage your time efficiently.
