Five Things To Do After Taking The Bar Exam
Five Things To Do After Taking The Bar Exam
That’s it. You’ve done it. You’ve successfully taken an administration of the Bar Exam. First, congratulations! Simply completing the Bar Exam is an accomplishment in and of itself and deserves to be celebrated. Think about it, you’ve studied for months, skipped social events, and worn nothing but sweatpants for the last week. It’s time to leave the Bar Exam behind until results come around. When that time comes, you can cross that bridge. Until then, it’s your opportunity to take some time to yourself, relax, and have some fun. Whether it’s taking a post-bar vacation to a faraway destination or keeping it local – suddenly your life seems yours again. With your regained freedom away from outlines and practice exams, here are our recommendations for what to do post-Bar Exam.
Five Things To Do After Taking The Bar Exam
1. Leave The Test Behind
We briefly mentioned this above but have to emphasize its importance. Dwelling on the Bar Exam, your performance, and how you think you did can drive you nuts. We understand that it’s common to wonder how you fared on such an important exam. Check out our post on how you’ll feel after the bar exam. However, do your best to put the test in the back of your mind. Dwelling on whether you should have chosen A or B for that tricky MBE question won’t change your results. Remembering you forgot an element to a rule included in your essay answer won’t change your results. Nothing will change your results. Come to terms with it and enjoy the window of time until results are released.
2. Re-Engage With Hobbies
Hobbies. Remember those things that you enjoyed before you started studying for the Bar Exam? With the exam over you, take some time to get back to what you used to really enjoy. Maybe it’s video games for hours on end? Perhaps it’s writing and playing music? Maybe it’s collecting truck stop t-shirts (can you tell we’re running out of ideas)? Whatever your hobby, now is a great time to dive back in.
3. Travel
Your life the past couple of months likely consisted of one world – the world of the Bar Exam. Don’t forget that there is an actual world out there that is waiting to be discovered by you. Here are some tips on taking a trip after the bar exam! Whether it’s experiencing the Great Wall of China or lounging at a local beach, travel is highly recommended. Besides allowing you to get away and have new experiences, travel can put things in perspective. Wherever you are in the world, travel has the ability to make the Bar Exam seem less scary.
4. Spend Time With Loved Ones
Boyfriends, girlfriends, family members, pets – you name it and the Bar Exam probably forced you to reduce time with them. Now that you have more free time than you know what to do with, spend time with your loved ones. They’ve all been rooting for you this entire time (yes even your husky, Nacho). While it may seem boring or somewhat mandatory, spending time with loved ones is another great way to gain perspective. If you find yourself unable to get the Bar Exam out of your head, sometimes a pep talk works wonders. Nothing more reassuring than mom and dad, your boyfriend, or your girlfriend telling you everything is going to be fine. Listen to them, they’re right.
5. Create A Backup Plan
While we certainly have faith that you passed the Bar Exam, it’s always good to have a contingency plan. Even the most confident of test-takers have received surprises on result day. The same goes for those who thought they had no chance of passing. Having a plan ready to go in the event you don’t pass the Bar Exam is a great idea. Taking things into consideration ahead of time can save a lot of stress and anxiety down the line. For example, figuring out the next administration you’re able to take the exam is a great place to start. Then take into consideration whether you will enroll in a bar-prep class again or study solo. From there decide whether you will take time off from work, and so on.
We hope this post on what to do after taking the bar exam is helpful!
