How I Designed My Perfect Swearing In Ceremony
The following is a testimonial from one of our students who recently passed the bar exam. She describes how she structured her swearing in ceremony to make it as special an occasion as possible!
How I Designed My Perfect Swearing In Ceremony
After struggling to pass the bar for 3 years, I wanted my swearing in ceremony to be intimate with family and friends. I did not want to do a mass ceremony with others and an unfamiliar judge. I also wanted to share this major moment with the people that have been supportive throughout my journey. So, I picked a judge who I formed a personal relationship with through a clerkship.
The private ceremony was held in her courtroom at 1pm on a beautiful sunny Thursday at the 30th veterans memorial circuit court in Lansing, Michigan. I took my oath and then the judge gave her personal remarks about me. I was able to take lots of pictures with the Judge and all my guests. It was a beautiful, and emotional day for me. Thankfully, someone placed tissues right near the podium as the judge made her remarks!
Afterwards, I had a private home dinner party with my loved ones. We had an Italian restaurant cater food; we had lots to drink and danced the night away with music. It was a lovely Thursday. It was filled with so much joy, laughter and fun.
Most importantly, I’m so grateful Ashley Heidemann sponsored me. She and her staff helped me pass the bar. I couldn’t have had it any other way than to have her petition the court for my admission.
